Job: Category Manager, Purchasing

Location: Shanghai

Report Line: Head of Category, Global Technology, Procurement

Responsibility:

  • Category Scope – Direct responsibility for a portfolio of categories, sub-categories and supplier relationships which are complex and difficult to manage, e.g. IT, Telecoms.
  • Category Management – To adopt, lead and implement category Management as a structured process creating and leading cross-functional teams or working alone on quick wins projects.
  • Strategy Creation – Create breakthrough strategies which deliver corporate objectives on behalf of stakeholders.
  • Sourcing – Will be accountable for the delivery of the sourcing activity including RFX, RFP, and negotiations and contracting to put in place the right suppliers and then manage supplier relationship and performance.
  • Strategy Implementation – To personally and proactively manage all aspects of implementation including entry and exit of suppliers, change management issues, ongoing supplier management and to support demand management on behalf of stakeholders.
  • Continuous Improvement – To ensure that every supplier relationship is set up for future continuous improvement and to lead and manage the measurement and review process that ensures delivery of on-going improvement.
  • Stakeholder Management – To work in a way that positively engages the support of stakeholders using problem solving and proactive communication skills.
  • Business Requirements – To have a keen insight and understanding of business requirements on a 1-3 year horizon.
  • Results and Performance – The incumbents will be doers and achievers who get the right things done in the right way.
  • Role Models – To act as an exemplar and role model, and deliver role model examples of good practice which can be shared and adopted throughout Group.
  • Project and Change Management – The complexity of categories and projects requires project management skills and a proven ability to manage change both internal and external through to successful completion.

Requirements:

  • Graduate and post graduate education qualifications
  • 5 years line procurement experience including practice and leadership of category management in multi-national organizations, this will include application in a variety of supply markets
  • It is likely that the incumbents will be experienced problem solvers.
  • The incumbents will possess the ability to formulate strategy.
  • An experienced facilitator, negotiator and planner, a competent change manager and accomplished communicator and relationship manager.
